With end of year functions coming up this is your opportunity to make a presentation. Take the opportunity seriously and put some preperation in. You don't have to write a speech as such but put a bit of thought into what you are going to say.

The most important thing to prepare is the structure. Prepare that and then you can rely on your wit and charm your "off the cuff repertoire" and the fact the audience may have enjoyed an early drink (better not to have been too early yourself) to impress the audience.
